The German government has decided to significantly increase tolls on German roads from December 1, 2023. From that date, a surcharge of 200 euros per tonne of CO2 will be levied. This almost doubles the maut price compared to the current situation
\nDespite protests from the German transport industry against this drastic rate increase, there is no indication that the change in law will be scrapped. The Maut reform is part of a package of measures to encourage the use of environmentally friendly vehicles in Germany. In addition to a significant rate increase, the proposed German toll changes also entail new complex regulations. This makes determining the toll rate for the vehicle more complex. The toll rate for trucks is made up of a number of components such as noise pollution and air pollution and is now being expanded with a CO\u2082 component.<\/p>\n
What will change?<\/p>\n
From December 1, 2023:
\n-A toll obligation applies to vehicles with a technical maximum mass of at least 7.5 tonnes (section F.1 on the RDW registration certificate).
\n-The criteria for the toll rate are the CO\u2082 emission class of the vehicle, the number of axles in the total combination and the share of noise pollution, air pollution and infrastructure
\n-The toll rate is made up of a share of noise pollution, air pollution, infrastructure and CO\u2082 emissions. The biggest change is that the Maut rate will be expanded with a CO\u2082 component.<\/p>\n
From January 1, 2024:
\n-CNG and LNG vehicles are no longer exempt from Maut.<\/p>\n
From July 1, 2024:
\n-It is especially important for couriers to know that vehicles with a technically permissible maximum mass of more than 3.5 tons become subject to Maut (field F.2 registration certificate). Craft vehicles are excluded.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, we are forced to pass on the additional costs resulting from the maut increase in our transport rates to, from and through Germany.
